Welcome address for the Sports, Medicine and Health Summit 2027

Andy Grote, Senator for the Interior and Sport, Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg

Dear participants, Hamburg is a Global Active City, and I am very pleased that the Sports, Medicine and Health Summit 2027 will be taking place again here in Hamburg. On April 15 and 16, experts from sports, medicine, science, therapy and politics will come together at the Congress Center here in Hamburg.

The summit addresses a question that will become increasingly important for our society: How can we help people stay healthy and active for as long as possible in an aging society? Prevention is one of the great challenges of the 21st century. Physical activity and sports are not a side issue. They are a key part of preventive healthcare. We need to think about physical activity throughout the entire course of life, from early childhood and school to recreational sport and healthy elite performance. Because health and physical activity are lifelong companions.

But we cannot meet these challenges within individual disciplines. We need cooperation between medicine, sports science, politics and practitioners. We need to turn knowledge into practical solutions. And this is exactly what the Sports, Medicine and Health Summit is about: bringing different perspectives together, sharing knowledge and creating solutions that can make a real difference.

As a Global Active City, Hamburg is committed to creating an environment that encourages people to be active in their everyday lives, strengthening health, quality of life and social cohesion. I look forward to welcoming you to Hamburg in April 2027. Stay active and stay healthy.
